Do Earplugs Block All Sound?


No, earplugs do not block all sound. Even the highest-rated earplugs typically reduce noise by around 20 to 35 decibels, which is a significant drop but not total silence. Loud or low-frequency sounds, such as alarms, heavy traffic or a baby crying, can often still be heard, just at a much lower volume.

Why Earplugs Reduce Sound Rather Than Eliminate It

Sound travels through air, but it also travels through bone and tissue.
